Following the recent beta tests for Monster Hunter Wilds and its approaching release date (February 28), the spotlight is firmly on the future of the franchise. This is notably a next-gen installment and, despite the desires of Capcom’s investors, it seems there are no plans for it to return to the Switch.

But what about the Switch 2? This is the question posed to series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yuya Tokuda during a recent discussion with Spanish outlet Gamereactor. While the duo did not reveal any specifics about Switch 2, Tsujimoto offered some perspective on the team’s considerations regarding the new hardware: primarily, they want more information as well.

The Monster Hunter producer acknowledged that he shares the same uncertainty as everyone else regarding Switch 2. While the team will likely be examining “the nature of the hardware and how we can utilize it effectively” in the future, Tsujimoto noted that there are currently no announcements to make.

You can find the producer’s full quote below, as translated by Gamereactor:

It goes without saying, regarding platforms for Monster Hunter Wilds, we do not have anything further to convey beyond what’s already available. However, we are also somewhat in the same position as everyone else when it comes to Switch 2. It’s a rather fresh announcement, and we would need to take time in the near future to understand exactly the nature of the hardware and the ways we’ll be using it fully. And that’s something that will be forthcoming for us.

Hmm. It’s hard to believe that a team as extensive as Capcom has been left in the dark about Switch 2 and its capabilities, though Tsujimoto does highlight an important point: we have no idea how powerful the hardware will be. There are whispers that Nintendo is packing PS4-level power into its next hybrid, yet Wilds is poised to be a large-scale game; will the Switch 2 even be equipped to handle it?

We have to consider that Tsujimoto likely already knows the answer to that question, but for now, at least, we will await official word from Nintendo before we invest our hopes in the next Monster Hunter installment heading our way.
