After contributing to every GTA installment since Grand Theft Auto 3 in 2001, producer and game designer Leslie Benzies departed from Rockstar Games following the release of Grand Theft Auto 5. More than ten years later, Benzies is preparing to introduce his new game, MindsEye, later this year as showcased during Sony’s State of Play. If the latest trailer is any sign, MindsEye will offer an adventure experience with elements of science fiction.
MindsEye places players in control of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier with a neural implant known as The MindsEye integrated into his brain, even post-military career. This implant also grants Jacob visions of a secret mission he struggles to recall that might have altered his life for the worse. As Jacob seeks clarity, he becomes the target of an elusive group intent on silencing him with extreme malice.
The gameplay trailer below reveals that MindsEye operates from a third-person perspective, making it a comfortable fit for GTA fans as Jacob uses various skills to take down adversaries. Players can also commandeer vehicles and engage in shootouts while driving. Additionally, Jacob has a companion drone that he can deploy to scout enemy positions, giving him an advantage in combat.
Benzies’ company, Form A Rocket Boy, is the developer behind MindsEye, which will be published by IOI Partners. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 this summer. For additional announcements from the State of Play, view the gallery below.
