Ready, set, go!

The roster of Switch 2 games expands continually, and now, pending its Kickstarter success, a fresh arcade racer is set to join the lineup.
OctaRace is a recently unveiled top-down racing game, drawing inspiration from Micro Machines and Crash Team Racing (with a touch of Mario Kart). Developer Pixel Almost Perfect aims to release it on all “modern consoles,” explicitly naming Switch 2 (and Switch 1) as platforms in the lineup — a relief, as it appears to be a delightful dose of nostalgic multiplayer excitement.
Accommodating one to eight players, whether online or locally, OctaRace will have you racing through a post-apocalyptic landscape after a rogue AI has seized control and largely wiped out humanity. Sounds uplifting, right?
Thankfully, the gameplay looks a tad less dismal. There are three game modes available (Free Roam, OctaRace, and Time Attack), an array of visually appealing characters and karts, plus a graphic style that reminisces the golden era of early-2000s racing games.
Here’s a brief overview of the game’s prominent features along with some screenshots from Pixel Almost Perfect and publisher PixelHeart:
– User-friendly controls and engaging gameplay
– Play with 1 to 8 individuals on the same couch or online
– Various game modes for solo and group play
– Select from a broad range of classic vehicles
– Personalize your choice with entertaining items and develop your unique racer style
– Represent a diverse and original cast of characters
All this is contingent on the game’s Kickstarter achievements. The fundraising page is now active, with a goal of raising €25,000 (around £21,000) in the next 16 days to bring the project to life. There are several stretch goals for each milestone reached beyond this target, culminating in a physical version for Switch 2.
