If your weekend was missing exhilarating thrills, fret not! From the depths of space and time emerges the iconic cop and rock star, Kung Fury, who has made a comeback from the realms of YouTube absurdity with a leaked teaser reel for Kung Fury 2, also known as Kung Fury: The Movie, possibly the most spectacular thing you’ll ever witness in your mundane existence. Making his first appearance in 2015, Kung Fury was a Swedish short film that burst onto the scene, featuring its titular hero (portrayed by writer and director David Sandberg), on a mission to rescue Miami from the most notorious criminal of all – Hitler. Throughout his adventure, he battles Nazis, ninjas, and werewolves, gathering a team known as the Thundercops, including a genuine T-rex, TriceraCop, Hackerman, and Barbarianna.

The short gained massive popularity due to its vibrant ’80s movie nostalgia and hilariously cheesy one-liners, and in 2018, it was announced that a feature film was in the works starring Michael Fassbender and Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, complications arose when a lawsuit was filed against one of the film’s financiers, Creasun, claiming the company owed $10 million to the project, which never materialized. With no resolution in sight, it seemed we would never see Kung Fury’s return – until now…

Recently, a fresh teaser reel surfaced online highlighting the comeback of Kung Fury, along with his mustachioed, mullet-sporting, cigar-chomping sidekick, Colt Magnum, played by two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender. The teaser also features Arnold Schwarzenegger as The President and puppy-saving David Hasselhoff as the Hoff 9000. Watch it now and uncover what your life had been missing.

According to Sandberg himself, the footage was disclosed by an undisclosed source, to which the creator responded with mixed emotions. In a statement to Variety, Sandberg noted, “This was an internal promotional video that was never intended for public viewing. I feel regretful because it contains a plethora of plot elements and temporary visual effects,” Sandberg elaborated, referring to a major plot twist that we won’t reveal here. “I hope people can appreciate the dedication we invested in the film; it deserves to be seen in its intended form. This movie has been held captive for five years, but I vow to continue advocating for it to ensure it receives the recognition it rightfully warrants.”

We can only hope and wish that Kung Fury indeed makes a comeback, ideally while traversing a dinosaur to a sensational synth soundtrack. Meanwhile, explore our compilation of the greatest ’80s action films that all secretly aspire to be Kung Fury.
