“Metropolis in Peril 2 Unveils First Gameplay Trailer, Exceeds Crowdfunding Goals in Under 24 Hours”
Frogwares’ Kickstarter promotional campaign for The Sinking City 2 is currently active and has exceeded its fundraising goal in less than a day, gathering over £140K at the time of writing.
As part of this crowdfunding initiative, Frogwares has unveiled new The Sinking City 2 details, confirming that the Lovecraftian sequel will be a self-contained narrative featuring fresh characters and settings. Set once again in 1920s America, instead of revisiting Oakmont, players will delve into the inundated streets and decaying structures of Arkham itself.
As previously disclosed, The Sinking City 2 – Frogwares’ inaugural Unreal Engine 5 game – signifies a departure from the deduction-centered approach of its predecessor. It is a sequel firmly rooted in the survival horror genre, with combat and exploration recognized as the primary mechanics this time around – a considerable risk considering combat has traditionally been Frogwares’ weak point.
Investigation does return, but now it is labeled as an “optional yet highly beneficial tool,” designed to aid players in uncovering secrets, gameplay enhancements, and lore. The Sinking City 2 will also feature a smaller map – navigable both on foot and by boat – aimed at creating a “better flow and concentration of discoverable elements.”
You can find additional details on The Sinking City 2’s Kickstarter page, and check out some pre-alpha gameplay in the trailer above.
Frogwares intends to launch The Sinking City 2 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S later this year. If you wish to become involved with its crowdfunding campaign – which is said to “significantly ensure our team the time and resources needed to explore” new features – there are still 29 days remaining before the campaign concludes.
The Ukraine-based Frogwares effectively employed a similar crowdfunding approach with 2023’s Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, as they adapted to survive during Russia’s ongoing invasion. “This financial safety net proved invaluable.”
