Matt Damon is set to grace theaters once again next year, in Christopher Nolan’s grand reinterpretation of The Odyssey. Having achieved numerous hit films thus far, the star of Jason Bourne understands what constitutes a good film, and Nolan’s creations are among the finest.
In conversation with Empire, Damon provided some perspective on his experience during the filming of this mythical project. “I can assert, devoid of exaggeration, that it was the finest moment of my career. I saw the horse on the shore and I was just like, ‘Wow.’ It was simply amazing,” he remarks.
“We were capturing that [Trojan horse] footage the following week, so I asked, ‘How will you accomplish it?'” Damon recalls. “And [Nolan] responded, ‘I’m not certain. We’ll just dive in and work it out.’
However, as is customary with Nolan, realism is essential. Just as a real Boeing 737 crashed into a structure in Tenet for enhanced authenticity, there’s actual physicality among the creatures and monsters. “If you’re on the verge of an existential crisis as you sail past the Sirens and you’re tied to a mast, it’s present. If it indicates you’re fleeing for your life from a Cyclops, you will indeed run for your life,” Damon elaborates. “Chris doesn’t obscure the truth.
A formidable ensemble accompanies him, featuring Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, and numerous others. The Odyssey is set to debut in cinemas on July 17, 2026.
