Today marks N7 Day, which signifies BioWare’s yearly commemoration of the Mass Effect franchise, and to celebrate this event, the studio provided an update regarding the upcoming game and the television series. However, do not become overly enthusiastic, as BioWare wishes to convey that it cannot disclose too much.

Executive producer Michael Gamble stated that the next installment in the Mass Effect saga is still in the works, affirming that “EA and BioWare remain devoted to narrating more tales in this universe.” Gamble also touched upon the speculations regarding BioWare potentially being shut down or sold amid EA’s $55 billion acquisition by an investor group led by Saudi Arabia.

“Like you, we have caught wind of the recent speculations. You’ve made it evident that you care significantly about what lies ahead,” he remarked.

There has been conjecture that should EA’s $55 billion transaction proceed, the new proprietors might close or offload BioWare. The studio’s most recent release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, did not fulfill EA’s sales projections. It remains to be seen what actions the new owners might take, or how EA plans to raise the funds to clear its $20 billion debt for the deal, and this ambiguity poses a business risk for EA.

Gamble did not specifically address these rumors but mentioned that the team at BioWare is “heads-down and dedicated solely to Mass Effect.”

He continued: “We have a vast universe to explore, numerous features to create, and countless romances to develop. We are thrilled about what we are crafting, and we assure you: when the time is right, it will be incredibly fun to present.”

Gamble acknowledged that he is aware people are “eager for updates” and expressed gratitude for their patience until the studio can disclose more information.

Mass Effect TV series update

Apart from the Mass Effect game franchise, Gamble shared a progress report on the Mass Effect television series at Amazon. He mentioned that the writers’ room is “thriving,” and they have already formulated “a substantial” amount regarding how the show will correlate with the broader Mass Effect lore and “its placement concerning the new game.”

“The series will delve into an original story within the universe’s timeline, positioned after the original trilogy. It won’t be a rehash of Commander Shepard’s journey–because, after all–that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?” he remarked.

The Mass Effect series was initially announced in 2021, meaning it has been in development for quite a while. In November 2024, the TV series received a significant update, when a report indicated that the show was truly in development. The report indicated that Daniel Casey (Fast & Furious 9) is scripting and executive producing the series, while Gamble also serves as an executive producer.

Ari Arad (Iron Man, Uncharted, upcoming Zelda film) is also an executive producer. As of now, there are no details available regarding the plot of the Mass Effect series, but the principal series chronicles the spacefaring adventures of Commander Shepard. A film adaptation of Mass Effect was once contemplated, yet it never materialized.

Filming for the Mass Effect series could commence in 2026.

“I desire you to see things”

In a social media update, Gamble acknowledged that BioWare’s N7 Day announcement this year did not contain substantial information. Nevertheless, the moment is not yet appropriate for more revelations regarding the next Mass Effect game.

“For everyone expressing frustration about us not utilizing N7 Day to release a wealth of details… I understand. I’m a fan as well. I wish for you to see things. But the timing isn’t right…yet. Has it been years since the announcement? Yes. Have we been occupied? Yes. Are we NOW entirely focused on Mass Effect? Absolutely yes,” he indicated.
