Marvel Rivals US Strengthens Studio Impact Amid Layoffs
NetEase acknowledges a “diminution of a design team situated in Seattle” has occurred due to “organizational factors.”
NetEase Games has verified that job cuts have transpired within a US support studio for Marvel Rivals.
In a communication to PC Gamer, the organization mentioned a “diminution of a design team situated in Seattle” for “organizational factors.”
“We have recently made the challenging choice to modify the development team structure of Marvel Rivals due to organizational factors and to enhance the development efficiency for the game,” it stated.
“We value the dedication and effort of those impacted and will treat them with confidentiality and respect for their unique contributions.”
The company did not disclose the number of employees affected; however, it confirmed that there are currently no Seattle-based developers involved with the game.
NetEase clarified that the primary development team for Marvel Rivals in China “remains fully committed to delivering an outstanding experience” and plans to “invest more, not less, into the progression and expansion of the game.”
Stage designer Garry McGee was among those impacted by the layoffs, sharing insights on what the Seattle-based team contributed to the game on LinkedIn.
“My team recently assisted in developing and launching Marvel Rivals, which turned out to be a larger success than any of us anticipated,” he wrote.
