Linda Cardellini solid as Jason’s mom, the true Friday the Thirteenth killer, for Crystal Lake prequel sequence
Linda Cardellini has been impressive in her role as the main character in Peacock’s Friday the Thirteenth prequel series, Crystal Lake, named after the summer camp where young Jason Voorhees met his unfortunate fate at the hands of the tormenting camp counselors. According to Variety, Cardellini will portray Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother who – spoiler alert for those unaware – is the true antagonist in the original 1980 film, seeking vengeance against her son’s abusers.
The 1981 film Friday the Thirteenth Part 2 quickly shifted focus to having Jason himself take on the role of the franchise’s legendary murderer, depicted as a supernatural, hockey-mask-wearing, hulking figure who can endure and inflict an endless amount of savage punishment. Jason Voorhees established the archetype of the slasher film killer, ultimately inspiring numerous imitators across popular culture and even facing off against the genre’s other top slasher, Freddy Krueger.
Now, Peacock’s Crystal Lake streaming series will follow the recent trend of reimagining classic stories with more entertaining prequel narratives. This series is produced by A24, known for its unique psychological dramas and horror films, with Brad Kaleb Kane acting as the showrunner.
Cardellini is recognized for her performances in Freaks and Geeks, Scooby-Doo, and in the Avengers franchise.
