Co-op horror sensation Lethal Company remains in Steam early access just beyond two years since its debut. After recently unveiling a long-anticipated text adventure titled Welcome To The Dark Place, solo developer Zeekerss aims to concentrate on completing his most recognized title, putting aside “a vision” for the potential appearance of Lethal Company 2.

In a conversation with GamesRadar+ via email, Zeekerss notes, “I haven’t had anyone inquire about a sequel to Lethal Company, but I understand people are eager for more updates! It’s still in early access because there is still much to accomplish. Regarding Lethal Company 2, I envision what it could be, which exceeds my personal goals.”

Last year, Zeekerss revealed that he had faced a bit of exhaustion after spending extensive time on Lethal Company. Creating and ultimately launching Welcome To The Dark Place, which had been in development in various forms since Zeekerss’ “2015/2016” era as a Roblox creator, was “extremely revitalizing” at times due to its story-driven emphasis.

“However, this project has made me realize that I truly enjoy crafting mechanics in typical games, as that seems to offer far greater variety and challenges throughout the process,” he states. “For Welcome To The Dark Place, instead of mechanics, there exist regulations and traditions and patterns that I devised in my mind and simply opted to adhere to. One such guideline is that players must always have the option to listen to doors before opening them. In a conventional game, that would be a hard-coded feature, a button players could press at any time; yet here, I maintain complete control over what the player can do.”

With Welcome To The Dark Place completed, Zeekerss believes he will “have fewer distractions” moving forward. And due to Lethal Company’s triumph at his back, he could create and explore any avenue he desires for the remainder of his life. Thus, I inquired about what he does wish to pursue.

“Following Lethal Company, I have a solid collection of concepts for games, some grand and some minor,” he states. “I feel an urge to develop a sequel or spiritual successor to The Upturned, a game that utilizes motion controls with both hands to interact with the surroundings, a party game assembly in the same manner as Wii Play, an open-world stealth adventure revolving around evasion across a vast expanse, and a project involving a vehicle. But for the time being, my focus will be on finalizing Lethal Company.”

Set for life after a megaton Steam sensation, Lethal Company creator returns to what truly matters: releasing peculiar retro horror games like this text-and-audio experience.
