Prepare to venture back into the jungle as Jumanji 3 has formally commenced production, but the unfortunate news is that it will mark the concluding film in the series as we recognize it.

The official Jumanji Twitter account announced the update, stating, “New level unlocked. Jumanji Movie is officially in production.” The post, which is visible below, also features an image of cast members Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan together at a panel in Los Angeles.

Johnson later verified this information on Instagram, mentioning that filming will soon take place in Los Angeles. However, the star subsequently revealed that Jumanji 3, or 4 if you consider the original 1995 film part of the new series, will be the last Jumanji installment. “What an enormous, enjoyable, heartfelt adventure,” Johnson stated, “It feels emotionally fitting for our cherished JUMANJI franchise to conclude on this beautiful note with our final film.”

That’s not all, as Johnson’s post also hints that the forthcoming movie will reference the ’90s film, which featured Robin Williams. The last two images depict a close-up of the original Jumanji movie’s poster and a necklace showcasing a dice pendant.

“The importance of the dice in the final image is a little Easter egg that my character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears on a necklace in our concluding film,” Johnson explained. “It’s the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI, serving as a tribute filled with admiration and respect for the legendary Robin Williams.”

With the introduction of the dice, we speculate that the upcoming film will incorporate the Jumanji board game just like the initial movie, or it will connect back to the ’90s film to bring the franchise full circle. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: Next Level both involve players being absorbed into the realm of Jumanji via a video game, but we would love to see the board game make a comeback in the franchise in some manner.

Jumanji 3 is directed by Jake Kasdan, with screenplay contributions from Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg. Alongside Johnson, Black, Hart, and Gillan, it seems stars Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner are also set to return.

Jumanji 3 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 11, 2026. For more, take a look at our compilation of the finest fantasy films, and stay updated with upcoming films headed your way in 2025 and further.
