As the jubilant group of rebellious entertainers reaches the age of 70, Hollywood might finally be embracing the idea that we could all benefit from The Muppets much more. Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are collaborating on an upcoming film focused on the fabulous Miss Piggy, and they have clearly delineated their working relationship.
“Emma Stone is the Muppet mastermind. Also, Emma Stone is a shark,” Lawrence shared during her visit on The Tonight Show. “I’m just like, the concept person. So, I approached her to ask, ‘What should we do?’ Now Cole [Escola] is penning it, and they’re ideal.”

“Miss Piggy is a feminist symbol, and she remarked it would be hilarious if Miss Piggy got canceled,” Lawrence recalls, before specifying: “Now, that isn’t exactly the storyline, but it sparked some ideas.”
This is indeed a captivating perspective. This will be the first instance of Miss Piggy leading her own feature film in her 55-year tenure with the Muppets ensemble. She first appeared in a Herb Albert special back in 1974, followed by a minor character in 1975’s The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence (actual title), before becoming a key member of the main cast in the inaugural season of The Muppet Show in 1976.
She is now an integral component of the principal cast, frequently viewed as the lively counterpart and romantic interest of Kermit the Frog. Despite her yearning for attention, her narratives have mainly existed as subplots until this point, and it appears Stone and Lawrence are prepared to change that.
Both artists aim to feature in the film. This is one of two projects related to The Muppets currently in development, as Seth Rogen is also producing a mystery special for Disney Plus, with plans to initiate another ongoing variety show. I’m cautiously hopeful about all developments.
