
Japan’s National Library Says Game-Key Cards Are Not Eligible For Preservation
Wow, imagine that! Japan’s National Diet Library—often shortened to “NDL”—ranks among the planet’s largest libraries, and ever since 2000 it has been collecting video-game discs and cartridges strictly for long-term preservation.
Yet a Famitsu report picked up by Automaton reveals that Switch 2’s slim Game-Key Cards don’t meet NDL’s definition of “authentic” physical media, so the institution will leave them out of the 9,600-title-strong archive.
