Japanese Charts: Kirby Air Riders Is Off To A Flying Start

We are back with another glance at the Japanese physical software sales leaderboard, thanks to Famitsu, and we can’t say we’re astonished by this week’s victor.

Kirby has reaffirmed his complete supremacy in the territory once more, with Kirby Air Riders launching impressively with an impressive 195,594 units sold. It pales in comparison to the 380,000 launch that The Forgotten Land achieved back in 2022, but for a game as niche as Air Riders, it’s commendable!

In other news, last week’s chart-topper, Konami’s Momotaro Dentetsu board game sequel has fallen to fourth and sixth on Switch and Switch 2 respectively, allowing Mario Kart World and Pokémon Legends: Z-A to occupy the remaining podium spots. Additionally, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment exceeded the considerable milestone of 100,000 sales.

Switch 2 hardware sales have experienced a predicted spike due to the arrival of a new exclusive Kirby title, with the console comfortably positioned atop the hardware leaderboard, recording an additional 126,953 units. It has been a strong week for PS5 sales as well, with the Digital Edition reaching 23,381, while the Pro has even surpassed the Switch Lite and standard models, attaining 11,367.

This scenario indicates that aggregating the console SKUs shifts the balance in Sony’s advantage this time, with the three PS5 variants totaling 36,920, while the Switch 1 models sum up to 29,370.
