Considering the multitude of secrets the DC Studios co-head has concealed, it’s a marvel if James Gunn can manage the ones that fans believe they have unraveled. Aside from the recently mind-boggling twist in season 2 of Peacemaker, a significant subject of conversation pertains to his Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, and the possible involvement of one of Kal-El’s enduring adversaries, Brainiac.

When Gunn shared the cover page of his recently completed script for Man of Tomorrow, speculation soared that the Collector of Worlds would be the movie’s principal antagonist, attributed to the depiction of a human brain featured on it. Now the Superman director has commented on the choice of imagery, while still remaining evasive regarding what it may be alluding to.

“Well, naturally, I wasn’t oblivious to the fact that when I posted the cover of the script, there was going to be dialogue surrounding that specific topic,” Gunn explained to Entertainment Weekly. “But I believe we should refrain from revealing exactly what is unfolding.”

However, while Gunn might be withholding certain information, it’s evident that following this week’s Peacemaker episode, Man of Tomorrow will draw some influence from the series, due to Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) assisting Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo). “Everything is interconnected, thus there is a narrative we are conveying across the DCU, and this is closely linked to Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn disclosed. This new alliance will have repercussions on Lex and Clark’s escapades in whatever journey they embark on next. “But there are additional aspects, and a part of that is the bond between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor, which is a crucial factor in the DCU and Man of Tomorrow moving forward.”

Regrettably, we have a lengthy wait ahead to see how significant that will be, considering Man of Tomorrow won’t arrive in theaters until July 9, 2027. For all other forthcoming DCU films and shows headed our way, fly over faster than a speeding bullet here to discover what’s in store.
