Jam Metropolis Divests Canadian Studio Ludia Following Surprise Offer
Jam City has consented to transfer ownership of its Montreal studio, Ludia, to a consortium of Canadian investors.
According to a report by Venturebeat, the company stated that while they weren’t actively looking to sell, they received an unexpected offer that was simply too enticing to decline.
Co-founder and CEO of Jam City, Joshua Yguado, verified the announcement on LinkedIn and mentioned that Ludia is set to “flourish” as an independent entity under CEO Jimmy Gendron’s guidance.
He expressed that the transaction signifies a significant opportunity for both Ludia and Jam City.
This announcement comes three years after Jam City acquired Ludia following the company raising $350 million through equity and debt funding.
At that time, Jam City mentioned that this acquisition would help advance its goal of developing and publishing top-grossing titles based on licensed intellectual properties.
Ludia is well-known for creating mobile games such as Jurassic World: The Game, Dragons: Titan Uprising, and DC Heroes & Villains.
Approximately 130 employees are anticipated to stay with Ludia after the sale, with a small number of staff remaining at Jam City.
The sale means Jam City now operates 10 studios globally. The company, which has achieved over $4 billion in total lifetime bookings, laid off about 85 employees in August 2024 due to some of its games not performing as expected.
