Update #1 []:
At EVO 2025 this week, a new trailer for Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact Season Pass was presented. It showcases the first DLC fighter Neferpitou, who will debut in Fall 2025.
“Characters will be introduced sequentially, and we hope you’re looking forward to the continued thrill of HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT.”
As pointed out by Gematsu, the trailer also hints at the DLC fighters Phinks Magcub, Shizuku Murasaki, and Zeno Zoldyck.
Original Story:
Arc System Works Europe has just revealed that the slightly-delayed 2D fighter, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, launches today on Nintendo Switch.
Crafted by Bushiroad Games and Eighting, this collaboration has pedigree since Eighting has previously delivered several popular fighters, including Naruto: Clash of the Ninja. With Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, you engage in intense 3v3 tag-team action, which is elaborated in the official press release as follows:
“HUNTERxHUNTER: NENxIMPACT is a 3-on-3 combat game inspired by the iconic anime and manga series HUNTERxHUNTER, created by Yoshihiro Togashi. In this game, players form a team of three characters and compete against the rival team utilizing a tag system: summoning allies for support attacks, or swapping characters in real-time!
For those unfamiliar, Hunter x Hunter is a remarkably long-running anime series that has a dedicated fanbase, although it may not precisely compete with popular franchises like Dragon Ball or Naruto, which enjoy more glamorous, high-budget games. First serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1998, the manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, centers around a young boy named Gon Freecss, who discovers that his father, now vanished, is a legendary Hunter.
This 2D fighter utilizes the world of the comics to animate some intense battles. We always welcome tag-team gameplay, and while it may not win accolades for its graphical fidelity compared to other Switch fighters, the underlying combat experience here could offset any visual limitations. Indeed, all the fighters we’ve tried from Eighting previously have excelled in the mechanics department.
Alongside the digital edition, priced at £49.99 (or its equivalent in your region!), there’s also a physical edition available in both standard and limited edition formats, with the limited edition including the following extras:
- Full Game
- Special Box
- Artbook
- Acrylic Stand
- Season 1 Pass
- Alternate Costume Pack for Hisoka & Kurapika
This limited edition, presented in an attractive box, will cost you £84.99.
Hunter x Hunter has already made headlines a few times in this gaming format, having been delayed to incorporate rollback net code, and has also been banned in Australia for containing content deemed “inappropriate.”
You can view the trailer for the game at the top of this very article and, while it may not be the most visually appealing compared to some other Switch fighters, if it excels where it matters — in the combat mechanics — and you’re already a fan of the anime, this could be worth a try.
