By Fields of Mistria‘s Caldarus romance is finally here, but securing the affection of the dragon guardian requires a bit of effort. His human form is linked to a new quest that demands several rare and valuable items, and you’ll need to spend considerable time in the mines before you can embark on it. How to pursue romance with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria
Caldarus’ human form and his eventual emergence for potential romance are connected to a lengthy quest introduced in Fields of Mistria’s second major update, Breaking the Fire Seal. To reach the point where you can start the quest, some spelunking in the mines is necessary, as both the tablet and the Fire Seal itself are hidden deep within at level 60. You’ll also require multiple emeralds, sapphires, and rubies throughout the quest, so be sure to set some aside as you go.
Once you complete the tablet, speak to Juniper at the bathhouse to initiate the quest. Upon breaking the seal, Caldarus will appear, take on his human form, and expend all his energy saving you from the disaster that follows the seal’s destruction. Naturally, he will be quite exhausted afterward and will retreat to his home in the Deep Woods to recuperate—but not before gifting you a new spell, Dragon’s Breath.
This spell is essential for clearing the vines that previously blocked your access to the Deep Woods, and you can also use it to unblock the caves where the crafting recipes for Fields of Mistria’s sprinkler and auto-petter are located. Before venturing inside, you may want to acquire an axe of at least copper quality or higher to handle the stumps in the woods. You’ll also need to deal with a large rock blocking your path next to the wooden worker’s shop, which requires at least a copper pickaxe if you haven’t already.
Caldarus’ house is situated in the north-eastern part of the region. Make your way there and talk to him to add him to your journal as a romantic interest.
Caldarus’ heart level
Shortly after the update, players reported that their relationship with Caldarus began at a maximum level of six hearts. Soon after, NPC Studio announced an adjustment, stating that Caldarus’ affection meter would now start at a level consistent with your story progress. In simpler terms, if you are caught up with Fields of Mistria’s main story quests, he’ll still start with six hearts, but it will be fewer for those who have yet to advance.
If you’re new to the game and want to start off with Caldarus as if he were any other romantic interest, you may need to delay progressing too far in the story and stick to the missions necessary to reach the Fire Seal quest.
