Are you intrigued by stars and constellations in Blue Prince? These elements and advantages are essential for achieving success in each attempt. Our guide touches on various aspects, such as the Observatory, the Planetarium, and a bit about the Spiral of Stars. Additionally, please note that this article contains minor spoilers.
The stars and constellations in Blue Prince – Observatory and Planetarium guide
In general, stars are a resource you accumulate over the course of your gameplay. Different constellations have effects based on the number of stars you possess when you engage with the large telescope in the Observatory.
This guide is structured to explain how to gather stars efficiently and the constellations you can unlock during your gameplay. We will also provide a brief overview of the Spiral of Stars, a late-game enigma, and the perks from the Planetarium.
How to earn stars quickly
There are numerous methods to acquire stars in the game. Each visit to the Observatory awards you +1 star, while concluding the day in the Planetarium gives you +2 stars. Certain items also provide bonuses, like the Morning Star from the Armory.
If you want to maximize your stars in Blue Prince, you should take advantage of experiments in the Laboratory. This process includes collecting all Microchips to place them in the Sundial. This allows you to download a data packet that contains new Laboratory experiment causes/triggers and effects. Naturally, you want to select the effect that grants +1 star.
For the causes/triggers, there are two options that are effective in many scenarios:
- “Every time you dig up trash” – This works well if you possess a Shovel, especially if you drafted the Root Cellar as an outer room.
- “Every time you unlock or bypass security doors” – This is beneficial if you have a Keycard or if you’ve disabled the metal doors through the Utility Closet. You may also adjust the Security setting to “high” to increase the number of metal doors in the manor.
There’s a third option that is remarkably effective, bordering on an exploit. For this, you need to secure the Nursery: Nurse’s Station upgrade via an Upgrade Disk. If you enter the room with 10 steps or fewer, the Nurse’s Station resets your steps back to 20.
Then, you combine this with the “whenever you open your map, lose 10 steps” cause/trigger. In essence, continually open your map and re-enter the Nurse’s Station to replenish your steps. If executed correctly, you can amass an extraordinary amount of stars without limit.
How to activate constellations
The details about constellations in Blue Prince can be found in a Library book titled The Fixed Stars. Additionally, there’s a document named the Star Schedule located in the Planetarium. Essentially, these documents provide information regarding the effects of each constellation, as well as the number of stars needed to activate them.
Revisiting what was mentioned earlier: You activate constellation/s based on your current collection of stars when you interact with the large telescope in the Observatory. If your star count is significant, you can activate two or more constellations as a combo.
- North Star: +1 gold; activates at 1 star onward.
- The Twins: Adds two trunks at the Entrance Hall; activates at 2, 6, and 25 stars onward.
- The Slice: +3 steps; activates at 3, 10, 14, 18, 21, 25 stars onward.
- Diamondus Minor: +1 gem; activates at 4, 6, 9, 14, 24, and 29 stars onward.
- The Southern Cross: Rooms with four doors are more prevalent today; activates at 5, 9, 13, 16, 25 stars onward.
- Farmer’s Apple: Apples restore more steps today; activates at 7, 10, 14, 21, and 25 stars onward.
- Clavis the Key: +1 key; activates at 8, 13, 17, 22, and 25 stars onward.
- Diamondus Major: +5 gems; activates at 11, 16, 19, 21, and 29 stars onward.
- Draxus the Dead: Dead-end rooms are more common today; activates at 12 and 22 stars onward.
- The Sail: Everything is 50% off today; activates at 15, 18, and 23 stars onward.
- Florealis Bloom of the Sky: Green rooms are more likely to have special flowers (i.e. those with gems) today; activates at 20 and 24 stars onward.
Note 1: With 40 stars, it is possible for seven different constellations to activate simultaneously.
Note 2: Some constellations are necessary for certain challenges or tasks. These include the Drafting Strategy Sweepstakes (Draxus the Dead) and the Castle Cipher (Southern Cross).
Note 3: If you possess the Telescope, you can also utilize it in the Observatory. This will yield double the effects/results from all current constellations.
The Inkwell constellation: It’s reroll time!
Once you achieve 50 stars, you activate the Inkwell constellation in Blue Prince. This boon is particularly unique as it offers you a redraw/reroll mechanic, allowing you to refresh outcomes.
: You can utilize stars to redraw rooms instead of Ivory Dice.
Here’s the twist: You must achieve 50 or more stars once more if you wish to access this feature. Therefore, we actually suggest amassing enough stars until you’re comfortably beyond this total—specifically, 75 to 99 stars. This approach enables you to still take advantage of a few rerolls occasionally during your adventures.
The Spiral of Stars constellation: The great enigma
Upon reaching 100 stars, you unlock the Blue Prince Spiral of Stars constellation. This represents one of the largest enigmas in the game.
- When you examine the large telescope in the Observatory at 100 stars, the Spiral of Stars will start with a brief phrase concluding with “then.”
- On each subsequent visit, you will add a new word. These extra words/phrases also have various consequences, which can include bonus resources or losing steps.
- As more words are included, the effects become increasingly severe. This reaches a climax once you complete the entire phrase, warning that attempting to add another word will end your day.
The reason this aspect remains an enigma is that the spiral shape is part of several late-game hints. As of this writing, no one has deciphered what the Spiral of Stars truly signifies or whether it connects to a larger puzzle.
The Planetarium: Added benefits if you have a Telescope
Lastly, let’s discuss the Planetarium in Blue Prince. It’s not accessible by default, as it is a Found Floorplan. To unlock it, you need to rotate the Observatory telescope until it’s aligned with the upper section of the room (i.e., the area with the wheel). This will enable you to reveal a compartment containing the Floorplan.
While the Planetarium may be a rare drafting choice, we encourage you to explore it if you have a Telescope item. This is because the Telescope allows you to view the planets displayed on the ceiling.
Every time you do this, a bonus resource or item will be contributed to the Planetarium itself. These might include an apple, a locked trunk/chest, an Ivory Dice, a dirt pile, and a Prism Key. These rewards enhance the allure of the Planetarium for future drafts.
That concludes our guide on Blue Prince constellations and stars. Now that you’re equipped to collect a multitude of these celestial resources, you might want to increase your gold allowance as well.
