Following an official announcement at Star Wars Celebration Japan, new insights into Star Wars: Zero Company have emerged. Notably, the game is set against the backdrop of the Clone Wars. While the galactic civil war has been extensively explored, Zero Company will delve into the concealed narratives of that conflict and the clandestine missions that occurred. Thematically, it borrows elements from Star Wars narratives including the Clone Wars animated series, Rogue One, and its precursor series Andor, and even draws inspiration from classic World War II films such as the Dirty Dozen.

“The Clone Wars provide us with a variety of the mechanics we require for the game, which is fantastic,” stated Bit Reactor creative director Greg Foertsch during an interview with GameSpot. “Additionally, it’s fascinating; we haven’t experienced that level of detail in the Clone Wars, making this a fairly distinctive opportunity that also presented us with numerous advantageous options for our game design, enabling us to narrate a compelling story with engaging mechanics. This truly opened pathways for us to explore.”

LucasFilm Games producers Orion Kellogg and Kelsey Sharpe mentioned that the Clone Wars period allowed for “numerous locations in that area” where original tales could unfold. The intricate storytelling of the Clone Wars significantly influenced Zero Company, alongside the ground-level dynamic of Rogue One. Films like the Dirty Dozen encouraged the concept of how the Zero Company team unites, yet as Sharpe emphasized, the original Star Wars movie remains the foundational inspiration for this game.

“Even if we adopt a more grounded tone while exploring the complexities of the Clone Wars, there’s always a sense of hope,” Sharpe remarked. “The connections between allies persist, and the myth-making continues. That is the essence of Star Wars. It’s how we maintain consistency in all the narratives we share.”

Star Wars: Zero Company is set to debut on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.
