Hideki Kamiya Intended To Continue Bayonetta With Another Trilogy
“Regrettably, I’m no longer capable of doing that”

The future of the Bayonetta franchise is uncertain due to the exit of several main personnel from the development company, PlatinumGames, including Hideki Kamiya.
We anticipate the return of our beloved Umbra Witch in some form, though Hideki Kamiya reveals he had grand visions for Bayonetta prior to leaving the company (credit to, Nintendo Everything). In his recent YouTube video, he stated his plans to extend the series beyond what he considered a “halting point” in Bayonetta 3.
Instead of terminating the series completely, his intention was to usher in a wholly fresh trilogy that could have potentially led into an additional new installment. He expresses regret that he is “no longer capable of doing that”. Presently, he is developing a sequel to Okami at his new company, Clovers, in cooperation with Capcom.
Here is what he had to say:
“If you are curious about the ending of Bayonetta 3. Suppose I had remained at PlatinumGames – how far would the series have stretched? I do have thoughts regarding that. Thoughts, but… I rather not plainly discuss it here, it’s challenging to relay only through words. I truly wanted to convey them accurately through the game. Regrettably, I’m no longer capable of doing that.
“It’s common for people to say, ‘He desired to wrap up the series with Bayonetta 3.’ That’s entirely off-base. I merely intended to demarcate a trilogy as a halting point. For me, that halting point was envisaged to be the commencement of a new chapter. I dreamt of extending the series with that fresh chapter. Possibly even materializing it into another trilogy which could lead into yet another new installment. That was my intention.
“And in embarking on that fresh chapter, I didn’t just ponder about the storyline. Of course, the storyline would be novel, but also, the gaming system – I had been gradually refining it from 1 to 2 to 3. For the new chapter, I envisaged a complete revamp – initiating afresh with both storyline and game design. So, I never planned to culminate the series with Bayonetta 3. Some people even declare, ‘Hideki Kamiya doesn’t have a fondness for Bayonetta’, but that’s entirely off-base. I wrapped it up that way because I desired to prolong Bayonetta’s story in a fresh chapter.”
We won’t spoil the conclusion of Bayonetta 3 here, but we can comprehend why some might perceive it as the conclusion of the series.
As of now, we may never truly ascertain what lies ahead for Bayonetta. PlatinumGames is at liberty to pursue the series without Kamiya’s participation, but considering that Kamiya had such a distinct vision of the series’ trajectory, it’s challenging to predict what PlatinumGames plans to do with the IP.
How do you interpret Kamiya’s remarks regarding Bayonetta here? Would you appreciate more installments from PlatinumGames? Leave a comment with your thoughts.
