Seven years subsequent to its victory as Game of the Year at the 2018 Game Awards, God of War continues to garner accolades. The recognition I am discussing today, to be honest, isn’t as formal or sanctioned as the game’s placement on Rolling Stone’s 2025 compilation of the finest games in history, yet it is considerably more entertaining.
The accolade I am referencing pertains to God of War’s noticeable impact on the upcoming Bollywood Netflix film, Mahavatar Narsimha. Footage from a combat scene in the film is spreading across social media primarily because some of the animations seem to be exact replicas of those from God of War’s grand battle sequences.
Nonetheless, should it not be clear, the scenes displayed in the prior video are edited and merged to showcase the God of War similarities prominently, but the resemblances are undeniable.
However, after watching the entire combat sequence on Netflix, which I highly recommend you do, I observed distinct inspirations from a variety of iconic media. I viewed the scene just once, but I instantly recognized noticeable homages to Mortal Kombat’s fierce fatalities, classic Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee films, and even the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s trademark large-scale confrontations. It’s genuinely quite a sight, and frankly, incredibly impressive.
It is also quite important to mention that this kind of phenomenon is not unusual in Bollywood films, which are frequently greatly inspired, and in certain instances, frame-for-frame, by Hollywood productions. What makes this situation distinctive are the clear nods to prominent video games like God of War, Mortal Kombat, and who knows what else may be concealed within that I may have overlooked. Fascinating stuff!
