Who do SKU believe you’re fooling?

An Emmy-winning sound engineer has taken to social media to criticize his local GameStop, which he alleges has been trying to push pricey Switch 2 bundles on customers eager for the high demand for the console in the US.
As initially reported by The Shortcut, Elea Tsentzelis, known for his audio work on MTV’s recent Family Legacy and as part of a sound team that earned an Emmy for ‘The Daily Mail’, shared that his local GameStop in Astoria, New York, was insisting on selling unnecessary screen protectors and additional accessories to customers who were merely trying to secure one of the limited units available there.
It’s a common practice to create various bundles to optimize profit during a new console launch; however, this specific store may have acted unscrupulously. Reports suggest staff claimed they could not scan the console SKUs individually, meaning customers were compelled to buy extras.
In response, the Gamestop Help social media account assured those impacted at the store that corrective measures would be taken.
Given the context of these events and the fact that the Switch 2 is currently in high demand — particularly in the US, where tariff issues have complicated matters — it’s challenging to determine what GameStop can feasibly implement now to address missed pre-order chances.
We have contacted GameStop for additional comments and will keep you posted as more details emerge.
Have you observed or heard about any dubious pre-order bundle tactics in preparation for the Switch 2 release? Let us know!
