Today marks a significant event in the realm of Xbox Game Pass, as Microsoft has integrated another Call of Duty title into the subscription platform. Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022 edition) has been added to the Game Pass library, featuring the complete experience of both single-player and multiplayer modes.
MW2 becomes the third entry in the Call of Duty series available for Game Pass subscribers. It now stands alongside Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 3. The battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone is accessible for everyone, including Game Pass users, although it is not exclusively part of the Game Pass lineup.
Modern Warfare 2 is available on Game Pass for both PC and Xbox platforms.
Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 2 serves as a follow-up to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot. The narrative continued with Modern Warfare 3, created by Sledgehammer Games and launched in 2023. As reported by Deadline, plans are in motion for a fourth installment within this reboot series.
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, many speculated whether older Call of Duty titles would be included in the Game Pass library; however, that has not yet been realized.
Modern Warfare 2 is not the only new addition to Game Pass this week; Ubisoft’s Anno 1800 has also recently been included. The upcoming title is Dredge, arriving on May 6. Although May 2025 has commenced, Microsoft has yet to officially unveil this month’s comprehensive list of additions and removals; nonetheless, the “leaving soon” page has already indicated some of the titles departing in the early part of May 2025.
Activision is anticipated to launch a new Call of Duty game later this year, and it’s rumored to be a sequel to Black Ops 2, possibly featuring the return of a beloved Zombies map.
