Whenever we believed Marvel had returned and was in top form, another installment would hinder progress and leave fans anxious about the fate of the MCU. It’s genuinely hard to dispute their concerns. Following Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday ranks as the next feature on the roster, and we’re still uncertain about who is included in the original superhero assembly. With such dilemmas, enthusiasts flocked to Reddit to deliberate on when the Marvel Cinematic Universe began to stray off course, and a few evident slip-ups underscore this issue.

The two concerns highlighted by the OP were “Postponing the debut of the Black Widow film for so long until AFTER Natasha’s demise in Endgame due to power struggles between Feige and [former Marvel Entertainment CEO, Isaac] Perlmutter over creative vision,” alongside “Minimizing Hulk as a character right after the Russos took the helm of Avengers (the greatest acknowledgment I will give Joss Whedon is that he understood how to portray Hulk and executed it brilliantly in his two films).”

One fan contended, “Lacking a genuine crossover during Phase 4. Numerous concepts and characters that those appreciated in Phase 4 still remain unresolved. Thunderbolts, in several aspects, felt like the first authentic crossover taking advantage of the MCU since Endgame.” This prompted another fan to support the argument, stating, “Phase 4 still doesn’t seem completed to me; there was no conclusion that made me believe that chapter has closed. Now, we’re somehow in Phase 6. It merely feels like one extended Phase without anything significant marking that shift.”

Another fan pointed out a recurring concern since the MCU transitioned to television, necessitating fans to engage in more background research than they were accustomed to in order to stay informed. “Attempting to continue main hero narratives in TV series, especially with Captain America, but to some extent Captain Marvel as well. Most individuals I know didn’t watch the series, and it also deterred them from the films. Reserve TV for defenders style stories or separate narratives (e.g., the magic of Agatha and Ironheart fits well as a series).”

One fan was harsh on a particular show, asserting, “Not a film but nearly everything related to Secret Invasion. Eliminating Maria and the entire conclusion was the absolute low point of the MCU. It’s unfortunate that Emilia Clarke continues to participate in the most disappointing conclusions for shows available lol.”

A creative decision that some now view as a hindrance is the introduction of several alternate dimensions to explore, which one fan believes undermines any significant risk ahead. “I think the entire multiverse concept was a mistake. Having infinite realities merely indicates that there’s no tension since if everything fails in one universe, there exists an infinity of other universes, so winning or losing doesn’t matter.”

Well, fortunate that there’s no multiverse-hopping antagonist set to wreak havoc on the MCU in the near future, right? In the meantime, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. For the moment, you can explore every MCU film and series coming our way here.
