Forget about Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives

Having difficulty obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order? Disappointed about those exorbitant game prices? Well, this free new browser-based Pokemon game might not help you forget about all those exciting forthcoming Switch 2 titles, but it could keep you entertained for around thirty minutes.

On April 4, Google launched a free pseudo-game that requires you to search for and collect the original 151 Pokemon, but you need to know where to begin your quest. First, ensure you are using Google on a mobile device. Then, search for any one of the original 151 Pokemon and tap the Poké Ball icon located at the bottom of the screen.

Once you’ve done that, the particular Pokemon you searched for will appear with a stylish graphic before being added to your ever-growing Pokedex, which will also show you the silhouette of a Pokemon you haven’t yet found along with a helpful hint, ‘Who’s that Pokemon?’ style. Each time you reach a milestone, you’ll receive a Master Ball and need to correctly guess the silhouette of whatever Legendary Pokemon appears to capture it as well. (Just make sure you sign in with your Google account if you’d like your progress to be saved.)

It serves as a fun memory challenge if you genuinely intend to recall the clues and silhouettes – but it’s Pokemon! There’s always a way to game the system, and I did exactly that by utilizing the ‘People Also Searched For…’ tab to quickly tap through Gen One Pokemon that I’m not as well-acquainted with.

Google’s Pokemon might not deliver the full-fat Gotta Catch ‘Em All experience you are longing for, but you won’t have to wait long for Game Freak’s next big project either. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to release later this year on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Switch 2 pre-orders have been postponed in the US “in order to evaluate the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions,” according to Nintendo
