April is quite a bustling month in the realm of The Last of Us. Not only is Part 2 making its way to PC, but the much-anticipated second season of HBO’s live-action series is also set to begin – and Sony is inserting a limited edition DualSense controller themed around developer Naughty Dog‘s celebrated titles into that mushroom-infused mix.

The DualSense wireless controller – The Last of Us Limited Edition, as it is officially called, launches on April 10th (Part 2 debuts on the 3rd and the series premieres on the 13th), featuring “shiny trophy icons” that symbolize significant moments, characters, and events from both games.

Unfortunately, you’ll be stuck with my commentary instead of Eurogamer’s expert on The Last of Us, Victoria Kennedy, for this article – so instead of an insightful analysis clarifying how the various small details reference the game, my only fleeting impression is that the black and white aesthetic along with the subtle embossing looks unexpectedly elegant. Not so sure about those large white icons, though.

Nonetheless, here’s what Naughty Dog has to say about the entire affair: “We aimed to ensure that both chapters of The Last of Us are represented, through trophy icons printed in black gloss across the controller shell. Among these trophies, three distinctive images will immediately capture the attention of TLOU fans: the firefly, moth, and wolf. Players will recognize the Fireflies’ iconic spray-painted emblem that first appeared in Part 1, while the moth and wolf symbolize the intertwined destinies of Ellie and Abby in Part 2.”

Sony’s The Last of Us DualSense controller is set to launch on April 10th and will retail for £74.99 / €84.99 / $84.99. However, anyone eager to get ahead of the line – considering the “limited quantities” available – can pre-order on the PlayStation website starting at 10am, 1.
