Creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, has consistently expressed that he does not plan to entirely finalize his cherished farming simulation. Although he has not definitively indicated whether further updates will come, he wishes to adjust the method of their announcement and rollout.
During an interview on Bobby Lee’s TigerBelly podcast (timestamped here), Barone was (humorously) questioned about the gap between the release of 1.6 on PC and its debut on other platforms. The extensive update premiered in March 2024 for PC and in November 2024 for consoles and mobile devices.
As console and mobile players of Stardew Valley endured the long wait for 1.6, Barone described it as “nine months of torment” and “it made me quite despondent.”
This is why, should an update 1.7 occur, Barone aims for everyone to access it simultaneously.
“I want to prevent that from happening again … I’ll assure you, if there’s another update, I won’t announce it until it’s entirely complete, and by that, I mean on all platforms, as there was considerable dissatisfaction this time around, and it simply wasn’t enjoyable,” Barone remarked.
Later in the podcast, Barone was pressed on the potential for a full sequel to Stardew Valley, and he certainly did not dismiss that possibility. In fact, he directly stated: “I may one day create a Stardew Valley 2.” So there it is.
