
EA CEO Teases Major Update on the Horizon for Apex Legends
“The direction of the franchise’s business has not been progressing as we had hoped for an extended period.”
No discussion about “meeting expectations”; meanwhile, bookings for Apex Legends had declined by twelve percent year-over-year during Electronic Arts’ Q3 FY25.
EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson shared insights about the franchise’s future during the earnings call Q&A, where he outlined the company’s intention to implement modifications to improve Apex Legends – including the idea of ‘Apex 2.0’.
Earlier in EA’s Q2, Wilson pushed back against the concept of Apex 2.0 as a solution for the franchise, but has now indicated that it is under consideration.
“The direction of the franchise’s business has not been progressing as we had hoped for an extended period,” he stated. “We are continually experimenting and creating more substantial content for that community. While we have observed some advancements, they may not be as significant as we desired.”
“We do envision a time when we wish to implement a more substantial update of Apex as a major gaming experience, and the team is diligently working on that. One might also consider that we likely wouldn’t release that alongside a Battlefield launch [which is planned for 2026]. Thus, from a timing perspective, our current consideration is that this would occur after Battlefield.”
Wilson continued: “Looking towards the longer-term, these franchises that are at this stage and possess this degree of fan engagement…”
