Dragon Quest creator wants to “oversee everything” in the legendary JRPG series until he dies: “I think the next goal for me is to witness the 50th Anniversary [2036]”
Dragon Quest originator Yuji Horii intends to keep supervising the JRPG series until his demise.
Horii, currently 71, has been intricately engaged with every primary Dragon Quest installment since the inaugural release in 1986, and he rightfully views the franchise as his cherished project, conveying to Game Informer:
Horii will be 82 by 2036, making it entirely feasible that he will still be around when Dragon Quest commemorates its 50th anniversary, which is a delightful notion. Regarding his involvement with Dragon Quest, he certainly aligns with the typical retirement age, not only in game development but in the Japanese and global labor market overall. However, 2017’s Dragon Quest 11 – one of the finest JRPGs I have ever experienced – demonstrated that Horii still possesses that unique touch.
