Dive into the Intriguing World of Konami’s New Octopus Platformer!
By Closing night’s PlayStation ‘State of Play’ presentation wasn’t filled with notable announcements, but one revelation that caught our attention was Darwin’s Paradox!, an upcoming stealth platformer from Konami that appears to incorporate a fair amount of Inside inspiration.
Created by ZDT Studios, this game puts you in the role of Darwin, an octopus taken from the sea and thrust into the harsh industrial realm of the notorious megacorporation ‘UFOOD INC.’ You’ll need to utilize those eight limbs to escape, and to do so, you may need to grasp the art of sticking, swinging, inking, and blending into the dystopian backdrop, all while evading the ever-watchful gaze of your captors (as well as avoiding fire, menacing piranhas, treacherous drops, and more).
It’s hard to watch the trailer and not be reminded of Playdead’s beautifully gloomy Inside, with Darwin’s ominous searchlights, underwater pursuits, and all-around “I really don’t want to be here” atmosphere transporting us back to the tense experiences of 2016. Sure, things don’t appear quite as dire when you’re controlling a bright blue octopus, but you get the gist.
