Though poor Lydia doesn’t genuinely do anything detrimental in the game, and she proves to be a true ally, it’s clear that someone at Bethesda intended for her to utter a particular phrase just a bit too frequently.
“I am sworn to bear your burdens,” she proclaims in a manner that implies she truly doesn’t want to be lugging your items… especially when it’s crucial to swap belongings, which can happen frequently due to how easily players become over encumbered in Skyrim. This line became enough of an irritation that there’s a mod with nearly 1,000,000 downloads aimed at enhancing Lydia’s dialogue.
This dialogue snippet, along with Lydia’s endearing clumsiness during stealth missions and her uncanny ability to block every doorway, has solidified her meme status right alongside the character who greets you at the start.
Anyway, Avowed officially embraces the Skyrim Lydia meme, featuring a ring that evidently pays homage to the character.
