Director of Shatter Up Fiction Expresses Enthusiasm for Another Game of the Year, Yet Acknowledges Challenges with GTA 6’s Release Timing
Split Fiction director and Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares is hoping to clinch the Game of the Year title yet again in 2025. However, he is aware that he faces some formidable competition if GTA 6 launches this year as scheduled.
In a Drop Damage video where Fares addresses YouTube comments (timestamped here), he shared a prediction that Split Fiction will be this year’s Game of the Year. Hazelight received the coveted award back in 2021 for the cooperative adventure It Takes Two; however, that game did not win against some of the most highly awaited releases of all time.
“I would truly love to win Game of the Year again, but conversely, I’m a massive fan of GTA. I believe if it releases, it will be quite difficult to compete, and I genuinely want it to come out because I’m such a big admirer.”
