“I believe there’s a possibility here”

Blizzard’s Diablo franchise is perfectly suited for the Switch. Both Diablo II and Diablo III thrive on the hybrid console, and there are speculations that the newest installment — Diablo IVmight be in development for Switch 2.

In an interview with GamerTag Radio’s host Danny Peña, series manager and former producer of the Gears of War series, Rod Fergusson, mentioned that the idea of Diablo IV on Switch 2 is “something to consider.” (source: Nintendo Everything).

Even though no confirmations have been made, Fergusson shared with Peña that “It’s great that Switch 2 possesses the capabilities to run a game like Diablo 4,” emphasizing that there’s an “opportunity” for the game on another console.

However, Fergusson made it clear that nothing is certain, noting that the challenge lies “less with the hardware” and more with the live service model:

“…live services on Switch have proven to be somewhat difficult in the past, and I am optimistic that as they roll out this June and look ahead, it becomes easier and more logical to offer a live service on the platform.”

In the meantime, both Diablo II and III will be accessible on the Switch 2 through backward compatibility, which is a plus. It appears Blizzard is eager to collaborate with Nintendo again to introduce its latest title to the upcoming generation of Nintendo hardware, especially featuring Mouse Mode.

As we near the launch of Switch 2, it’s likely that more developers will be looking at Nintendo’s new system to ensure their games can be included. The third-party lineup is already looking strong for launch day, so the future looks promising.
