Curious about how to vanquish or capture the Gigas in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? This hidden boss poses one of the most formidable challenges in the game. It’s not merely due to its strength. Instead, it’s because of the intricate series of tasks required to unlock the confrontation itself. Thankfully, our guide contains all the necessary information for you.
How to vanquish or capture the BT Gigas in Death Stranding 2 – Terminal Fort Knot Voidout and Ghost Hunter mission guide
To even have the chance to fight the BT Gigas, you must first enhance your connection with the Ghost Hunter near the pinnacle level–i.e. as close to rank 5 as possible. You can explore all the missions/orders in our Ghost Hunter guide.
Nonetheless, it’s important to note that the Ghost Hunter utilizes a rather distinct mechanic, at least in comparison to other NPCs. This is due to the fact that his deliverable lost cargo doesn’t respawn, necessitating you to complete tasks from other characters. These, too, seem to emerge only after certain time has passed.
Ghost Hunter connection rank and missions
Before we delve into the Death Stranding 2 Gigas hidden boss, let’s review the four NPCs/facilities with delivery missions assigned to the Ghost Hunter:
- Heartman’s Lab
- The Pioneer
- The Mechanic
- Eastern Environmental Observatory
As previously mentioned, you might have to wait in real-time for these missions to show up in their respective terminals. Just ensure you check back periodically while completing objectives from other characters.
Now, every time you raise your rank with the Ghost Hunter, you should gain new sub-orders:
- Sub-order 109 comes from the Chronobiologist, and it’s actually what leads you to encounter the Ghost Hunter initially.
- Sub-order 110 involves battling the Headless Riders. This enables you to connect the Ghost Hunter to the Chiral Network.
- The subsequent sub-orders also originate from the Ghost Hunter. These involve capturing an animal and retrieving items in an area where a massive BT dwells.
- Then, by repeatedly completing the delivery orders from the four aforementioned facilities, you should be sufficiently close to connection rank 5 with the Ghost Hunter.
- Just rest inside a private room and check the Ghost Hunter’s SSS message.
- Return to his camp and collect Sub-order 114: Save F8/Terminal Fort Knot from a Voidout.
Note: If the mission or SSS post still doesn’t materialize, you may need to reconnect all facilities in Australia to the Chiral Network. Check the map to see if you overlooked a region–i.e. BPAS, Mr. Impossible, Tar Therapist, or others.
Sub-order 114: Save Terminal Fort Knot from a Voidout – Location and preparations
The task of defeating the BT Gigas in Death Stranding 2 brings you back to Terminal Fort Knot. You can use any transport mode, including Transponders for instant teleportation. Before the confrontation, we suggest crafting the following:
- EX Capture Grenades – You’re going to require these if you wish to capture and summon BTs.
- Coffin Board – Your very own hoverboard enhances mobility in tar-filled regions.
- High-end weaponry such as the LW Multirocket Launcher, LW Seven-Rocket Launcher, or LW Machine Gun.
Note: Be certain to keep a backup save as you approach the designated location just outside Terminal Fort Knot.
Sub-order 114: Save Terminal Fort Knot from a Voidout – BT Gigas abilities and best summons
The Gigas hidden boss battle occurs in a vast area enveloped in tar. Buildings and structures may appear sporadically, but they can also sink to the ground below. Aim to position yourself on a rooftop or ledge, or maneuver quickly on your Coffin Board.
The Gigas primarily seeks to impede Sam’s movement by ensnaring him with its tendrils. This colossal creature can also generate bulbous floating BTs that explode upon contact.
Regarding BT summons, we suggest formidable behemoths like the Cetus or, if you’ve advanced significantly in the campaign, the Megalocarcinus. These creatures should be able to divert the Gigas long enough for you to take it down with your weaponry.
Is it possible to capture the Gigas?
Indeed, you can certainly capture the Gigas in Death Stranding 2. Just ensure that you reduce its health sufficiently–i.e. to red level–and that your summoned BT doesn’t inadvertently eliminate it.
Once the boss’ health bar turns red, wait for it to perform its floating BT ability. Its head will then begin to glow, so throw your EX Capture Grenade at it to transform it into a crystal.
The BT Gigas costs 1,200 chiral crystals to summon. Surprisingly, it remains on the battlefield for a shorter period–i.e. one and a half minutes compared to three minutes for other summons.
Ghost Hunter rewards
After finishing the encounter, simply fast travel back to the Ghost Hunter’s camp to collect your rewards. These include the following:
- Music: Low Roar
- Custom Hologram: Ghost Hunter
- Backpack Patch 47: BT Gigas
