One year after its launch on Epic Games Store in March 2024, the free-to-play version of Dark and Darker has once again been removed.

Developer Ironmace states that the game has been taken down due to an ongoing copyright lawsuit involving Nexon Games.

Both versions of the game – the free-to-play Dark and Darker, and the premium Dark and Darker: Legendary Edition – continue to be available on Steam. The latter is also still accessible on Epic Games Store.

“Epic Games has decided to remove Dark and Darker from the Epic Games Store,” Ironmace informed players via Discord (thanks to PCGN).

“This choice seems to be based on claims made by opposing parties in an ongoing legal dispute. We are currently trying to understand the specific reasons behind this removal.

“The removal process doesn’t appear to be completely finalized, as Dark and Darker is no longer listed, but Dark and Darker: Legendary Edition remains available for purchase. Please be aware of this possible confusion.

“In preparation for the chance that Dark and Darker may not be playable on Epic Games, we are exploring various solutions to ensure players can keep enjoying the game,” Ironmace concluded, while also apologizing for any “inconvenience” caused and promising to share more information as soon as possible.

Dark and Darker launched on Steam in February 2023 but was taken down after Nexon claimed that the game originated as its own proprietary prototype
