Dante’s Peak premiered in theaters in 1997, and now, almost 30 years later, it is receiving a 4K Blu-ray release. The disaster film led by Pierce Brosnan is available for preorder in 4K on Amazon ahead of its release on April 22. Although the movie did not receive top reviews, it showcased strong performances from Brosnan—who was portraying James Bond at the time—and Linda Hamilton. The visual effects of Dante’s Peak were also impressive for the late ’90s.
If you’re interested in seeing how it looks in 4K, consider reserving a copy now. We’ve already seen it go out of stock at Walmart, so it’s possible that Amazon could sell out of preorders before the release date as well.
Preordering with Amazon guarantees you the preorder price promise—if the 4K Blu-ray is marked down before April 22, you’ll benefit from the reduced price. The movie is currently discounted to $31.49 (down from $45), making this an excellent opportunity to preorder. Moreover, you won’t be charged until it ships.
Dante’s Peak Bonus Features
This edition of Dante’s Peak contains a few bonus features, spread across its two discs. Here’s a complete list of what’s included—note that some features are available in 4K while others are on standard Blu-ray.
- Audio commentary from director Roger Donaldson and production designer Dennis Washington (4K and Blu-ray)
- Getting Close to the Action: The Making of Dante’s Peak (Blu-ray)
- Theatrical Trailer (Blu-ray)
If you’re not interested in the 4K version, you can find the standard Blu-ray of Dante’s Peak available for $10 (down from $15). This version includes all the same bonus content as the upcoming release, so take a look if you want to save a few dollars. You may also want to consider The Pierce Brosnan Collection, which gathers together four James Bond films—GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day.
Dante’s Peak is set in a Northwest city bearing the same name, where a dormant volcano is about to erupt. Brosnan portrays a volcanologist who must assist in evacuating the city before it’s too late; what follows is a thrilling natural disaster film with visual effects that were groundbreaking for its time. Brosnan starred alongside Linda Hamilton (The Terminator, T2: Judgment Day), and it was directed by Roger Donaldson (No Way Out, Species).
