By Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set to return for a second independent season streaming on Netflix, with several members of the original creative team making a comeback.
The upcoming season offers another “independent 10-episode narrative from the universe of Cyberpunk 2077 – an unfiltered tale of salvation and vengeance.” Game developer CD Projekt Red‘s announcement blog provides further insights: “In a metropolis that flourishes in the glare of violence, one inquiry lingers: when the world is dazzled by spectacle, what limits must you breach to render your narrative significant?”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners director Kai Ikarashi and chief character designer Kanno Ichigo are also returning for another journey through Night City. “They are accompanied by returning partners Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) and Hugo Award recipient Bartosz Sztybor as Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer.”
CD Projekt Red remains deeply involved with the project, along with animation studio Studio Trigger. As for the season’s advancement, little is known apart from the fact that it’s “currently in production with a projected release on Netflix in due time.”
For those curious about the potential return of David Martinez – the heart-wrenching protagonist of the first season – CDPR appears to confirm that the response is a definite no. “David is gone. But Night City endures.” This doesn’t explicitly exclude the possibility of Lucy appearing, as game characters did in the inaugural season, but we should likely anticipate this entry to be genuinely independent.

With the announcement, CDPR also unveiled the season’s first stunning poster, revealing what seems to be the obscured faces and silhouettes of an entirely new eclectic group, one of whom appears to be a literal child, which isn’t too unusual for Night City.
