Crytek Announces Workforce Reduction and Puts Crysis 4 Development on Hold
Crytek is letting go of 15 percent of its employees and halting development on Crysis 4.
The announcement was made on X, detailing that the layoffs will affect their artistic and collaborative products and services teams.
The German studio currently employs around 400 individuals, indicating that about 60 people may unfortunately lose their positions.
Crytek stated that these layoffs result from the “challenging, unfavorable market conditions that have impacted our sector in recent years.”
“This decision has not been made lightly, as we truly value the dedication of our skilled teams,” the statement reads. “After postponing the release of the next Crysis title to Q3 2024, we have been attempting to reassign developers to Hunt: Showdown 1896.
Crytek’s focus on Hunt: Showdown 1896
“Although Hunt: Showdown 1896 is still on the rise, Crytek can no longer operate as it previously did and maintain financial viability. Despite ongoing efforts to reduce expenses and lower operational costs, we have concluded that layoffs are unavoidable to move forward.”
Crytek will provide severance packages and career support services to those affected.
The organization emphasized that it aims to achieve sustainability by focusing on Hunt: Showdown 1896.
“We have a remarkably strong gaming platform and are completely committed to its continued operation,” the statement continues. “We will keep enhancing and evolving Hunt: Showdown 1896 with significant growth and advancing our vision for our engine, CryEngine.”
