Crysis 4 Development Paused Amidst Crytek Layoffs

Crysis creator Crytek is the next establishment impacted by job reductions, as it announces plans to part with approximately 15 percent of its 400 personnel.

This translates to about 60 individuals, affecting both development teams and shared services.

The studio halted the development of its forthcoming Crysis installment last year to concentrate on Hunt: Showdown 1896, but has labeled the layoffs as “necessary to proceed forward”.

Crytek released a statement via social media stating:

“Like many of our industry counterparts, we are not shielded from the complex, adverse market conditions that have affected our sector in recent years,” it states.

“We regret to announce that we must let go of approximately 15 percent of our workforce, which is around 400 individuals. These layoffs impact development teams and shared services. This has not been an easy choice to make, as we highly value the dedication of our talented teams. After pausing the development of the next Crysis game in Q3 2024, we had been trying to redeploy developers to Hunt: Showdown 1896.”

“While Hunt: Showdown 1896 is still in progress, Crytek cannot function as before and achieve financial sustainability. Even with ongoing initiatives to lower costs and minimize operating expenses, we have concluded that layoffs are unavoidable to advance. Crytek will provide severance packages and career support services for those affected.”

The statement closes by reaffirming the studio’s commitment to Hunt: Showdown 1896.
