Corinne Busche Exits BioWare and EA After Accomplished 18-Year Career as Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busche has exited BioWare and EA. In a statement to Eurogamer, she shared that she was “offered an opportunity I couldn’t refuse.”
Busche initially joined EA in 2006 as a designer and subsequently worked on The Sims 3 expansion Into the Future. In 2019, she transitioned to BioWare as a lead systems designer and gradually advanced to the role of game director for Veilguard, which launched last October.
“Righting the ship” at BioWare
In her statement, Busche indicated that her departure was voluntary and that she left having accomplished “what I aimed to achieve at BioWare.”
“[I wanted] to come in and assist in correcting the course. At its core, this was about my own satisfaction,” she remarked.
Her remarks reflect Veilguard’s early stages as a live-service game, which was overhauled several years later into a single-player experience as BioWare shifted its focus back to Dragon Age and Mass Effect following the Anthemdebacle in 2021.
“The chance to return [Dragon Age] to a legitimate high-quality single-player RPG was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she continued. “It was a challenging endeavor, as games with such rocky development cycles seldom make it to launch, and even rarer for them to turn out well. We, as a team, achieved it. And it was demanding. It took a toll on me. BioWare still has significant cultural work ahead, but I genuinely believe they are on the right track now.”
When discussing her future plans, Busche mentioned she intends to remain within the CRPG realm, dedicated to honoring “the traditions of memorable characters.”
