Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Gustave performer Charlie Cox, when he isn’t portraying the superhero Daredevil during his daily routine, appears to take on the role of the protector of video game actors. Following his recent nomination for Best Performance at the forthcoming Game Awards, Cox opted to publicly acknowledge Gustave performance capture artist Maxence Cazorla for the character’s influence – and a growing number of industry veterans concur with his sentiment, including Arthur Morgan himself.

Pausing for a moment from his snow-drenched cowboy hat, Red Dead Redemption 2 luminary Roger Clark responds to the matter on Twitter, stating, “This is kind of Cox and it aids in illuminating some of the very particular difficulties of video game performances.”

Clark articulates, “Certain studios/games may employ various actors to represent a single character. It’s plausible to have multiple voice artists, motion capture performers, and stunt actors (don’t forget the facial model) illustrating one character!

“Frequently in separation from one another. Don’t even get me started on the animators and designers, it requires a community to be certain. Insane stuff.” He contemplates, “Given this, do you believe when various creators contribute to a nominated performance, should they all be acknowledged?”

Well, why not? Expedition 33 voice artist and Maelle performer Jennifer English’s supportive partner Aliona Baranova – previously a Baldur Gate 3 mocap director during her time with PitStop Productions – strongly agrees, stating on Twitter, “Absolutely, I believe we ought to have a motion capture category at award ceremonies.” You know, for those who follow, and those who executed their stunts.
