Civilization 7 cross-platform play between PC and consoles is currently disabled, as developer Firaxis has released a new update exclusively for the PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck versions of the game.

“To expedite enhancements to the PC experience, we will occasionally roll out patches for PC at a different pace compared to consoles – including today’s Patch 1.0.1,” Firaxis stated.

“Consequently, cross-play between PC users and console users is temporarily suspended. This will not affect console players attempting cross-platform play with other console players, nor will it impact PC-to-PC multiplayer.”

Player feedback regarding Civilization 7’s enhanced access features is reflected in today’s update, Firaxis noted, with “some” of the initial concerns raised by players being addressed.

Civilization 7 is now generally accessible, after a week of refined access which saw the game launch with a “mixed” user reception on Steam.

Today, Firaxis released its PC patch notes for Civilization 7 update 1.0.1, and expressed gratitude to fans who have reported bugs thus far.

“We are actively reviewing and compiling all of your feedback, and will continue to do so as we implement improvements moving forward,” Firaxis acknowledged, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to enhance the game.

The patch includes a series of gameplay bug fixes, adjustments to the game’s AI opponents, and several minor enhancements to the game’s UI.

Upon a quick glance, there isn’t anything particularly substantial here – nonetheless, it is worth mentioning the efforts currently underway by modders to enhance the game themselves.

Take, for example, the Simple UI Adjustments Mod, which provides a range of useful floating tooltips that save you the trouble of navigating through menus to find information about a specific tile. Very handy!

Last week, Firaxis informed fans it might take some time to process all of your feedback, but pledged to prioritize community-requested features such as enabling the selection of starting and ending Ages, along with incorporating hotseat multiplayer.

“A competent title with some poorly executed concepts and a glaring lack of uniqueness,” Sin Vega stated in Eurogamer’s Civilization 7 review.
