CD Projekt Red exec says Ciri is a great choice for The Witcher 4, and she opens up new possibilities for the series after more than a decade of RPGs

The Witcher 4 was presented with its cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2024 and since then, the team at CD Projekt Red has been assiduously working on the upcoming RPG, ensuring the new title proudly continues the game series legacy, as Piotr Nielubowicz, the company’s CFO, optimistically hopes.

In a recent interview with Parkiet (translated by Google and DeepL), Nielubowicz explored the unveiling of Ciri as the central character for The Witcher 4, which was first revealed in last year’s Game Awards trailer. Despite not showing any gameplay, the sneak peek at the forthcoming game’s world, awe-inspiring Unreal Engine 5-inspired graphics, and the introduction of Ciri as the main character stirred a lot of buzz.

While precise details remained under wraps, Nielubowicz shed light on CD Projekt Red’s belief in Ciri’s potential as the right avatar for this new chapter, as she opens up multiple creative and narrative possibilities. The decision to have Geralt’s adoptive daughter as the new protagonist gives the developers an opportunity to bring forth a novel perspective in the narrative not explored before.

Nielubowicz also mentions that at this stage, he cannot divulge many specifics about the forthcoming RPG, but affirms that the ambition with this edition is to surpass all previous installments of the The Witcher series, a target CD Projekt Red sets for all future continuations of the series. The Witcher 4, described by the studio as its “most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date“, is set to uphold the series legacy by being a “proud successor” to its prequels.

The new game has grand plans, and beyond The Witcher 4, there are other upcoming projects from CD Projekt Red, including the coded Project Sirius, a fresh Witcher title aiming to “deviate from past productions”. Simultaneously, Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher books, has released a new story now available, marking a significant occasion following ten years since the last book release.
