“We do not approach this choice casually”
If you have been eager to immerse yourself in Borderlands 4 next month on the Switch 2, we regret to inform you that it has been postponed.
2K Games and Gearbox Software verified this on social media today, indicating that the team does not approach this choice lightly. The objective is to provide the “optimal experience”, hence this edition requires additional development time.
Although a new release date for Switch 2 hasn’t been disclosed yet, the goal is to synchronize it with the introduction of cross saves, which are currently being developed. In line with Nintendo’s guidelines, digital pre-orders have also been terminated.

Borderlands 4 was initially launched for PC, Xbox X|S, and PlayStation 5 earlier this month on 12th September 2025. Our colleagues at Push Square believed the transition to an open world was the “right decision”, yet couldn’t overlook the console version’s “challenging performance”.
Prior to this latest development update, the Nintendo Switch 2 version was originally set for 3rd October 2025.
