When we initially heard about Beyond Good and Evil 2 in May 2008(!), we must admit, back then, we questioned if the remarkable original wasn’t already becoming a bit dated for a sequel. It’s never too late, of course, but would the enthusiasm persist?

That was merely five years after Beyond Good and Evil initially debuted on GameCube, and astonishingly, after that original announcement, the sequel vanished until 2017, when it reappeared at E3 showcasing a spectacular trailer.

Naturally, we haven’t heard anything positive regarding it since then, truly, amid a troubled production that has seen a new creative director take over from OG Michael Ancel, among other challenges. However, as noted by our friends at Eurogamer, it seems there’s indeed still vitality in this old project.

In fact, a new job advertisement has surfaced on the Ubisoft Montpellier site indicating they are in search of a technical sound designer for the upcoming game, as described in the job post itself:

“Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an action-adventure open world title set in an enchanting space opera universe, serving as the direct prequel to the 2003 cult sensation. Leveraging groundbreaking technology driven by the proprietary Voyager engine, Beyond Good & Evil 2 aims to provide a fluid experience of exploration and space piracy across a solar system filled with exotic locales, vibrant characters, and secrets to unveil, individually or with companions. So, if you are prepared for an escapade like no other, join us in constructing System 3!”

Indeed, *adjusts detective hat* that seems likely to be Beyond Good and Evil 2 that they are recruiting for, and it appears there will be an exciting variety of space-pirating settings, powered by new graphics and audio engines. How thrilling!

But are we still thrilled? Are you still enthusiastic? And can Jade and P’Jay, 17 years after its initial announcement, come back with the gaming magic intact? Only time will reveal the truth.

Still eager for what Beyond Good and Evil 2 will contribute once — if — it finally makes its debut? Be sure to share your thoughts!
