I’ve perhaps encountered an excessive amount of Hollow Knight: Silksong anticipation in my life, but following the heavily-anticipated sequel’s seven Steam updates in under a week, optimism within the self-described SKONG community is soaring. (Or possibly at a historical low, depending on how weary everyone has grown of the clown franchise at this stage.)

In merely the past four days, Silksong has reportedly undergone seven backend modifications on SteamDB. Currently, there are no specifics on what has actually shifted this time, aside from some trailers being updated in the initial change. In June, the title received a copyright modification alongside some achievement adjustments in multiple languages.

Back in March, the game experienced an extraordinary (at that point) dual updates within a fortnight, featuring a copyright revision extending from 2019 to 2025, among additional changes. However, the notably accelerated frequency of updates this time – albeit shrouded in mystery – is what has sparked excitement among fans.

ANOTHER STEAM UPDATE. WE ARE GETTING SILKSONG SOON! from r/Silksong

“This marks the highest number of Steam updates we’ve received within such a condensed time frame,” one Reddit user observes. “I don’t believe you comprehend the significance of this; it indicates a release tomorrow,” another possibly joked.

“Another update?? They might genuinely be preparing to launch the game soon; the wait is nearly concluded,” is perhaps a somewhat reasonable rationalization given the context. Yet some enthusiasts joke that the creators are “overworking” and informed Team Cherry that there’s “no urgency in releasing this game soon…”.

One notably bizarre comment states: “The prophecy indicates that the game shall be launched when a choir of 1,000 pure souls sing the skong melody.” I’m uncertain how to interpret that, but it’s a great illustration of how far we’ve deviated from Skong’s illumination.

Regardless, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and there hasn’t been this much smoke in years. Both Xbox and Team Cherry itself have reaffirmed that the game is arriving this year, genuinely this time. We will need to keep our fingers crossed and wish for its arrival for the time being.
