Xbox consoles and gear have recently become significantly pricier, with “some” of the company’s upcoming first-party titles expected to mirror Mario Kart World‘s $80 price point later this year.
Announced today, the price elevation on consoles and accessories takes effect immediately and on a global scale. Only the United States and Canada seem to be affected in terms of headset pricing, however.
In the US, the standard Xbox Series X will now set you back $600—an increase of $100 from its previous $500 price. The digital Xbox Series X has seen a similar rise, now priced at $550.
Additionally, both 1TB and 512GB Xbox Series S models have experienced a price hike of $80, now retailing for $429.99 and $380, respectively. The 2TB Galaxy Special Edition Series X sees the largest jump at $130 more, now selling for a hefty $730.
Pricing for controllers varies by model, with the Core wireless controller now priced at $65, while the deluxe Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is now $199.99 (or $149.99 for the Core edition).
Regarding the games, Microsoft confirms that current Xbox games will retain their pricing, but the $80 rate will apply to “some new, first-party titles starting this holiday season.”
On the announcement page, you’ll find comprehensive lists of all the new prices for your area, so be sure to check them out if you’re concerned about upcoming costs.
“We recognize that these adjustments are difficult, and they were made based on careful consideration of market conditions and escalating development costs,” a statement from the announcement states. “Looking forward, we aim to provide more ways to enjoy a wider selection of games across any screen while ensuring value for Xbox players.”
Just a few weeks back, Sony revealed its second price hike for the PS5 in under three years across many regions, though customers in the US remained unaffected this time. Nintendo also recently announced price hikes for its Switch 2 accessories in the US last month, shortly after detailing their original prices due to “changes in market conditions.” Fortunately, the cost of the Switch 2 itself remains consistent.
It remains to be determined what upcoming titles for Xbox Series X may be impacted by these new prices.
