The Edge of Fate introduces substantial modifications to Destiny 2. With an entirely revamped armor system, along with fresh weapons, new abilities, and a new means of transportation, there are numerous new tools for Guardians to engage with in this latest expansion. Here’s what players can anticipate in The Edge of Fate.
Matterspark
The Edge of Fate will debut with a new locale—the planet Kepler—while players can also delve into novel abilities to accompany their explorations. Three unique powers tied to the atmosphere and playstyles in Kepler will be introduced: Dark Matter powers, namely Matterspark, the Relocator Cannon, and Mattermorph. Players activate these powers by seeking out a Dark Matter spore at a node in the open world, approaching a specific object to trigger their selected power. For instance, Matterspark is triggered via a sparking pad on the ground, whereas Mattermorph is activated by glowing green elements in the environment like platforms or doorways.
Matterspark morphs the user into a small Arc energy sphere that can swiftly traverse the world for a brief period. In this state, they become smaller and tougher to hit, though they remain susceptible to incoming damage. Players can attack by getting close to adversaries, emitting continuous Arc strikes while applying the Jolt debuff. While transformed into Matterspark, players can slip through narrow gaps, allowing access to previously unreachable areas like corridors and tubes.
Relocator Cannon
The Relocator Cannon, termed a “Fallen invention,” is a Void-element rocket launcher that transports players to a new location upon aiming and firing. It enables movement through barriers blocked by lasers or accessible shortcuts for projectiles. As a weapon, the Relocator Cannon inflicts Void damage, igniting chain reaction explosions with the Volatile effect and releasing small Void sparks akin to the Graviton Lance Exotic weapon.

The Edge of Fate is introducing significant adjustments to Destiny 2. With a thoroughly revamped armor system, alongside new weapons, abilities, and a new vehicle, players will have plenty of fresh gear to enjoy in this upcoming expansion. Here’s what players can anticipate in The Edge of Fate.
Matterspark
The Edge of Fate will introduce a new area, specifically the planet Kepler, allowing players to experiment with new abilities suited for these exotic locales. Three unique powers connected to the terrains and gameplay styles in Kepler are being launched: Dark Matter powers—Matterspark, the Relocator Cannon, and Mattermorph. Players will activate these powers by locating a Dark Matter spore on nodes in the open world, and then approaching a specific item to utilize their chosen power. For example, Matterspark is activated by stepping on a sparking pad, and Mattermorph is triggered by bright green elements scattered throughout the environment like platforms or doors.
Matterspark will convert the user into a small ball of Arc energy that can dart around the world for a limited time. While in this state, they are smaller and more elusive, although still vulnerable to damage. Players can engage enemies closely to continually release Arc attacks while inflicting the Jolt debuff. In Matterspark form, players can also maneuver through tight spaces, granting access to otherwise unreachable areas like corridors and tubes.
Relocator Cannon
The Relocator Cannon is referred to as a “Fallen invention,” featuring a Void element and serving as a rocket launcher capable of transporting players to new locations when aimed and fired. It also enables players to traverse walls obstructed by lasers or take shortcuts wide enough for a projectile to pass through. As an offensive weapon, the Relocator Cannon inflicts Void damage, creating chain reaction explosions with Volatile effects and producing small Void sparks reminiscent of the Graviton Lance Exotic weapon.
Mattermorph
Mattermorph is a new Strand-based ability that empowers players to modify their surroundings to create new paths and unveil hidden areas. When activated, objects capable of manipulation will emit a bright green glow, making them responsive to a simple button press. Those same objects can be employed offensively; players can pick up an item with Mattermorph, hold it, and then throw it to produce Strand effects like Suspension and Unraveling. Bungie described that players can “erase an entire encounter before morphing the environment,” providing numerous chances to dramatically alter their campaign experience and exploration.
Armor 3.0 – New stats, energy changes, and set bonuses.
Armor will undergo a substantial transformation in The Edge of Fate via the new “Armor 3.0” system. This system allows players to completely adjust their playstyles with new stats and armor perks integrated with the new World Tier system. Armor will experience significant modifications in functionality and will no longer require resources to level up once obtained. Instead, it will come with a full array of gear slots and an energy reserve determined by the World Tier in which it was acquired. The maximum energy for an armor piece can reach 11, associated with a Tier-5 drop from higher difficulty challenges. Higher-tier armor will come with enhanced stats reflective of its originating World Tier.
Armor Set Bonuses
Armor earned in The Edge of Fate and beyond will feature Set Bonuses. Wearing two or four pieces of armor from the same set grants players unique bonuses in combat. For example, the Techsec Armor revealed in the presentation offers a two-piece bonus that enhances Kinetic damage against combatant shields, overshields, vehicles, and constructs. The four-piece bonus produces a disorienting shockwave from enemies whose shields have been breached due to Kinetic damage. These aren’t the only effects armor can offer—more will be revealed in The Edge of Fate, Renegades, and beyond.
New Armor Stats
Stats are also undergoing a comprehensive overhaul. Along with how stats from armor pieces influence player abilities, a new feature allows the breaking of the 100-point limit for special bonuses in each statistic. The stats are categorized as follows:
- Weapons: Enhances weapon reload speed and handling. Increases weapon damage against minor and major combatants. The bonus above 100 ensures ammo bricks from defeated foes have a chance to yield extra rounds. It also escalates weapon damage against bosses and rival Guardians.
- Health: Boosts the health gained each time an Orb of Power is collected. Diminishes flinching during incoming fire while aiming. The enhancement improves shield recharge rate and grants players additional health when engaging combatants.
- Class: Reduces the cooldown for class abilities. Increases the recovery of class ability energy from all sources. The enhancement provides an overshield when utilizing the class ability.
- Grenade: Shortens the cooldown for grenade abilities. The enhancement amplifies the damage dealt by grenades.
-
Super: Amplifies the quantity of Super energy obtained from all channels. The improved advantage boosts the damage inflicted by your Super.
- Melee: Shortens your melee cooldown. Enhances the amount of melee energy gained from various sources. The upgraded benefit raises the damage caused by your melee assaults.
Griffon Combat Sparrow
Commencing on May 9, 2025, Bungie will introduce the special event Heavy Metal alongside the Rites of the Nine. Heavy Metal presents a new Crucible Labs mode that pits teams in Drake tanks against a squad of Fallen Brig walkers. This mode will serve as a unique deathmatch within the Crucible, allowing participants to earn a novel reward, the Griffon.
The Griffon is a novel type of Sparrow that can be utilized anywhere in the open terrain where a standard Sparrow or Skimmer can be summoned. However, this vehicle comes equipped with firearms that can be utilized. Although no gameplay footage of the Griffon has been revealed yet, it is expected to operate similarly to a standard Sparrow with additional equipment.
New Land Beyond
Another beloved Destiny exotic has made a comeback. This time, it’s the Kinetic sniper rifle No Land Beyond, now rebranded as New Land Beyond. Players who pre-order the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition or Collector’s Edition will instantly gain access to this weapon in-game. New Land Beyond stands out due to its lack of long zoom capability with its iron sights and its rapid aim time for precision shots. The Intrinsic Perk is The Master, which boosts weapon damage from Precision Hits until the user is defeated. Its other distinctive perk, Bullseye Bolster, significantly enhances this weapon’s target acquisition, handling, reload speed, and stability for a short time upon landing a Precision hit. Those who favor headshot-focused weapons are sure to relish this one.
