Alien: Earth has now earned the thumbs-up from Ellen Ripley herself, with franchise icon Sigourney Weaver praising the upcoming series.

“What impresses me is that it doesn’t revolve around the creatures,” Weaver explained to Collider when asked what she’s currently enjoying. “It explores the kind of planet we might inhabit a century from now.”

“The canvas feels vaster than a typical Alien entry. Riveting. It’s far more concerned with our society, its future trajectory, the price of avarice. The saga’s classic motifs are amplified, and the ensemble and execution are stunning. Honestly, it barely feels like TV.”

Set two years prior to the 1979 classic, the drama tracks synthetic Wendy (Sydney Chandler) after she signs on to salvage enigmatic freight from a downed starship that slams into Earth. Showrunner Noah Hawley—famed for adapting Fargo for television—steers the project.

“I’m viewing it like any spectator,” Weaver added with a laugh. “I even schedule joint screenings with my spouse, because if something leaps out of the screen I don’t want to face it solo. I haven’t caught up completely, but every installment I’ve watched has been gripping.”

Weaver debuted as the ultimate survivor Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 original and reprised the part in three follow-ups: Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), and Alien Resurrection (1997).

Alien: Earth streams weekly on Hulu and Disney Plus. Ma
